ABOUT THE STATION

WALF 89.7 FM is Alfred University's student-run free-form radio station.

"The station started in November 1971 in the basement of 6 Sayles Street, and has since moved twice, to Steinheim in the mid-70s, and then to its current location in the Powell Campus Center when it opened in 1993." (1)

The Princeton Review ranked WALF the 13th best college radio station in the country in its 2010 edition of the list. WALF has consistently stayed in the list's top 20 for previous years.

"Many people have been interviewed by WALF, a great feat for such a small station. Recent interviews include Dar Williams and Ralph Nader in March 2006." (1)

In 2009, WALF will introduced live streaming on its new website. Other additions to the station included a brand new automation system, a new operations, policies and procedures manual, a dump button, and an increased number of live broadcasts on campus and in the Alfred community.

In 2011, WALF establied a Blog.TV website and updated the website, and increased the personalization that the Dj's had on their respective pages. The Blog.TV website allows for people to chat and video with the current Dj if they are logged on during their show.
